Zweitrangig: Die Financial Times fordert den U.S. Congress auf, eine kurzfristige Lösung zur Abwendung einer vorrübergehenden Zahlungsunfähigkeit der Vereinigten Staaten herbeizuführen:
„By design, this anything-but-grand bargain would fail to address the longer-term problem. That is shameful, to be sure, and it has come to something when Mr McConnell’s ruse looks attractive. But the immediate priority must be to avoid default. Having wasted months on posturing, Congress has run out of time to address the larger issues. They will have to wait. They aren’t going anywhere.“
Die Demokraten im U.S. Congress streben hingegen weiterhin eine umfassende Lösung („grand bargain“) an:
„Democrats are being maddeningly tight-lipped about a leadership meeting with President Obama at the White House Wednesday afternoon. But a couple of key tells, and conversations with sources, suggest they believe — or want reporters to believe — that a „Grand Bargain“ on deficit reduction and raising the debt limit, crafted by the White House and congressional negotiators, is still possible in the next couple weeks.“
Das Weiße Haus signalisiert mittlerweile auch die Bereitschaft, eine geringe Erhöhung der Schuldenobergrenze zu akzeptieren, wenn es eine Perspektive für eine umfassender Kürzungsperspektive im Haushalt gibt.
